Social choice theory commits the election referendum paradox. The election referendum paradox means the paradox of electing an election. If you know which election to elect elections, then you have already elected the election. This is the paradox that social choice theory commits. It assumes preference voting with over-all mjority counting (Iain McLean: Democracy and New Technology) as the stand-point from which to judge election systems in general, as deficient, in various ways. But in so doing, it has elected an election system, with which to do this (IRV or the Alternative Vote).
